At Guerra Plastic Surgery Center & MedSpa in Scottsdale, AZ, our goal is to provide you with the appropriate skin care treatments for all of your skin care needs in a comfortable, relaxing environment.
Facial rejuvenation defies the saying that beauty is only skin deep. A key to facial rejuvenation is what lies beneath the skin, in the deeper layers. As we age, collagen & elastin, the two building blocks of healthy skin and the skin’s ability to repair itself, begin to diminish. The skin changes as we age, and naturally-produced collagen in our bodies experiences degeneration, leading to sagging skin, deepening wrinkles, uneven skin tone, changes in skin texture, and a less youthful look and feel. At Guerra Plastic Surgery Center & MedSpa in North Scottsdale, we offer Microneedling with PRP and other skin care treatments to help restore a more youthful look, and to look your very best.
Microneedling is a non-surgical, in-office procedure in Scottsdale that reduces the signs of aging, evens skin tone, minimizes scars, reduces acne scarring, and fades stretch marks. Microneedling combined with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) enhances treatment results. Learn how we use this treatment on the face and body to help stimulate your own body’s natural healing processes.
Microneedling is used to rejuvenate the skin and improve the skin’s surface and skin tone. The concept of Microneedling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical injury. Microneedling treatments stimulate the skin to repair itself naturally and safely, by creating controlled micro injuries in the skin which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which are vital components of healthy skin. As the Microneedling device moves across the skin, it makes pinpoint punctures to create very minor “micro injuries”, inducing the healing process including new collagen production. When these wounds heal, this creates skin that is smoother, clearer and more vibrant. This treatment can be performed on the face and body to address fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, sun damage, scars, skin texture, acne scarring and stretch marks.
Microneedling can be used in combination with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). Your own PRP contains growth factors that promote clotting, cell growth, and healing, and are beneficial in skin tightening.
During a treatment of Microneedling with PRP, blood is first drawn from your body (usually your arm). The collected blood is spun to separate the red blood cells from the PRP. When combined with microneedling, collagen induction therapy occurs with the added benefit of using your own blood’s growth factors to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin, the building blocks of healthy, youthful-looking skin.
This procedure requires the use of a Microneedling device. As the Microneedling device moves across the skin, it makes pinpoint punctures to create very minor “micro injuries” to the outermost layer of the skin. These micro injuries and PRP stimulates the healing process, including new collagen and elastin production. This treatment can be performed on the face and body to address fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, sun damage, scars, skin texture, acne scarring and stretch marks.
Even with the outstanding effects of microneedling, there’s extremely little downtime—after about 24 hours of sunburn-esque redness, your skin might feel a bit tight and dry for a few days, but about one week after your procedure, you’ll start to see glowy, rejuvenating results. It’s recommended for the week after microneedling a zinc based sunblock is a must once you begin your Microneedling treatments, to protect your new skin from further damage and sun spots.
We recommend SkinMedica for all your pre and post skincare needs.
To achieve optimal results, multiple treatments may be necessary. Microneedling treatments should be spaced between three to four weeks apart. Schedule this service today!

Questions? While it’s best to seek a consultation with one of our providers about your unique situation, the following questions and answers should help get you started.
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment for women and men of all ages and skin variations. This in-office procedure is performed by our trained, licensed professionals. The microneedling device make small injuries in the face or body, stimulating the body’s own healing system to infiltrate the micro-injuries and fill with plumping collagen and elastin. The result is smoother, firmer skin, diminished pigmentation and scarring, and overall healthy, glowing skin.
Microneedling is a nonsurgical technique that improves skin texture by applying PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or topical serums to targeted skin in order to treat imperfections such as fine lines, wrinkles, scars, acne scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and more. A hand-operated tool with an attached sterile needle tip is run along the treatment area. With each pass, the hand operated tool creates tiny “micro injuries”, sending healing reinforcements, including collagen, to the treated areas. The added benefit of topical application of PRP during this process further stimulates new growth and skin elasticity.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) does not have to be done with microneedling. Other serums such as hyaluronic acid and other growth factors are alternatives to PRP. Studies have shown that microneedling treatment can be more effective when PRP is used in the treatment. Discuss your skin goals with your provider during the consultation to determine whether PRP is right for you.
The microneedling procedure is safe for nearly all skin types. Microneedling can be used almost anywhere on the face and body.
Please inform your provider if you have any raised lesions (moles, warts, etc.) in the treatment area or if, in the last month, you have received any skin procedures to the treatment areas or applied any topical prescription medications to the treatment areas. Please inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters.
Microneedling should not be performed on anyone who has an active infection or an open wound in the treatment area.
Additionally, microneedling should not be performed on anyone with heart disease, bleeding disorders or anyone who is on blood thinning medications.
Patients who are currently on chemotherapy, radiation therapy or hormone replacement therapy are contraindicated for microneedling. Women who may be pregnant or breastfeeding and patients with a history of keloid/hypertrophic scarring should not have microneedling performed.

Some treatment areas may be more sensitive than others. After the procedure, avoid direct sunlight and applying makeup, sunscreen, and alcohol-based products for 24hrs.
